Innsbruck, Austria - Basketball Travel DestinationInnsbruck
Innsbruck is the capital of Tyrol and one of Euopre's most delightful smaller cities. It combines commerce, learning (the university is over 300 years old) and tourism. Innsbruck has twice hosted the Olympic Winter Games and the towering snow-capped Alps are on display from almost every street corner. The city looks back on 800 years of history. It was once a coveted strategic point, as from here travel between Germany and Itlay through the Brenner Pass could be controlled. In the Hofkirche you can see the tomb of Maximlian I, who is said to have considered Innsbruck hi sfavorite town. Unfortunately he was not buried there. The Altstadt is the center of Innsbruck and the Goldenes Dachl is both the centre of Altstadt and the city's emblem. Inside this building is the Olympiamuseum with relics and videos of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Games. The Hofburg, the Imperial Palace, is right next to the Old Town. Next door is the imperial chapel, the Hofkirche, the two dozen intricately detailed, larger-than-life bronze statures which surround the tomb of Maximilian I, make the visit workthwhile.
