With 81.8 million inhabitants, Germany is the most populous member state of the European Union economy and second most populous nation (after Russia), and home to the third-largest number of international migrants worldwide. Germany is a key member of the continent's economic, political, and defense organizations. Germany is well known for its dark place in history during World War II, but modern Germany has much to offer the international soccer traveler. Whether you are interested in its rich culture or you just want to experience the Oktoberfest, Germany will prove to be an exciting and interesting adventure. Experience the majestic beauty of castles and palaces, explore fascinating museums, or delve into the music of some of the most famous German composers. Explore the wine and beer festivals and visit the home of the discovery of the Nutcracker! GERMFLAG

Germany

The German national basketball team is the basketball side that represents Germany in international competitions. Their biggest successes are the victory in the European Championship of 1993 at home in Germany, the silver medal in the 2005 European Championships and the bronze medal in the 2002 FIBA World Championship. German internationals who have played in the NBA include Detlef Schrempf, Uwe Blab and Christian Welp. Dirk Nowitzki is also a German native that has become a star in the NBA. Nowitzki has inspired Germany to win the bronze medal in the 2002 World Championships, and was also named MVP of that tournament.

Bavaria, the southernmost German state, and its capital Munich, stand apart from the rest of the country. The difference includes a more relaxed lifestyle. Visitors linger for hours in beer gardens, eating, singing and meeting new friends. Munich's basketball scene is just as special.

Cologne is a 2000-year-old city whose beauty is both natural (it sits on the Rhein River) and manmade (the riverfront Alstadt is dominated by the spectacular Dom towers). Basketball teams traveling here are sure to enjoy Cologne's rich mix of ancient history and modern basketball.

Germany program highlights and sights:
