The top 20 U14/15 girls and boys teams from all over the U.S. (20 teams per gender selected out of over 100 applicants) competed in the tournament. On the boy's side, Cosmos Academy West from Southern California defeated PDA from New Jersey in the final. On the girl's side, the final featured two Southern California teams where Carmel Valley Manchester Academy defeated Arsenal FC. Both the girls and boys finals were decided by penalty kicks in two highly competitive and entertaining games.
Cosmos Academy West will advance to the Manchester United Premier Cup World Finals which will take place in early August at the home of Manchester United in England! There they will compete against top teams from all over the world including Manchester United, Chelsea FC, Valencia CF (Spain), Hannover 96 (Germany), Fenerbache (Turkey) and other teams, for the title of Manchester United Premier Cup World Champion!
The Carmel Valley Manchester Academy team will go on to play in the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden July 17-23, 2011. There, they will compete against top girl's teams from all over the world in the U15 division of the Gothia Cup. The Gothia Cup is the most competitive girl's tournament in the world, attracting over 1,500 teams from all over the globe!
Nike will sponsor the trips for both teams overseas and will outfit the winning teams as well. Congratulations to both teams on this achievement, and we wish both teams the best of luck at the World Finals and at the Gothia Cup!
