Touristic information
-
Maastricht . The friendly Burgundian city in the very south of the Netherlands almost seems 'foreign’. No wonder really, so close to Germany and Belgium. It's a stylish city, the main city of the slightly hilly, green province of Zuid-Limburg. This city of Roman origin on the river Meuse is seen as being one of the most sociable in the whole of the Netherlands. Maastricht is a city with something to suit all tastes: whether you love culture or history, simply sauntering around or sightseeing, shopping and evenings out: Maastricht is the place to be. The heart of the city is the Vrijthof, also known as “Maastricht’s sitting room”, due to all the pavement cafés and restaurants here. A visit to St. Pietersberg caves, a few km outside the city, is not to be missed.
-
Valkenburg (12 kilometres). Valkenburg is a popular tourist resort in the area of Maastricht. The town offers a pleasant center with a lot of entertainment. Special attractions are the "Termae 2000", a luxury thermal center with for instance a string of swimming pools, saunas and Turkish bathes entrance fee: 2 hours €16.50, 3,5 hours €20,-, a whole day €28,-), the "Sprookjesbos", an amusement park with various attractions and presentations of fairy tales (entry fee: approx. $3.00 per person) and the chair lift to the Wilhelmina tower.
-
Maastricht is the ideal shopping city. The historic shopping streets are a wonderful sight! Between the beautiful St. Servaesbrug bridge, the Markt and the Vrijthof, you can shop to your heart’s delight. There’s a wonderful indoor shopping center on the outskirts of the city center: The Brusselse Poort. The shops are closed on Sunday.
