The Summerville Soccer Club in Scandinavia!

The Summerville Soccer Club U16 boys team from South Carolina had an amazing trip to Scandinavia this past summer! The first stop on their trip was to the Gothia Cup youth soccer tournament in Gothenburg Sweden July 18-24. The Gothia Cup is the biggest international youth soccer tournament in the world with 1,700 teams from 80 different countries. Summerville SC was placed in a group with 2 Swedish teams and a Germany team.

The team made it to the 1st round of the consolation playoff and were eliminated by another Swedish team. The team played hard all tournament and all games were close games After the Dana Cup, the Summerville team traveled by bus and ferry to the Dana Cup tournament in Hjorring, Denmark. At the Dana Cup the team was placed in a group with 3 other Norwegian teams and the Summerville team advanced to the consolation playoffs of the Dana Cup where they were eliminated in a hard fought game which they lost 2-1.

The trip was about more than just soccer as the team partook in many of the social activities at both tournaments which included Olympic style opening ceremonies, disco nights and amusement parks. These activities afforded the players the opportunity to interact with the players from other countries and learn about their cultures and daily lives. Head coach of the team, Jason Rasner, said of the trip,” The boys and I had a great time and a once in a lifetime experience!”
